The Quiet Knowing

The Quiet Knowing

Written as a Companion piece to The Glimpse

May 7, 2025

There was a moment—
brief as breath—
when I caught a glimpse of something
just beyond my naming.

It wasn’t God, exactly.
Not the One I had been told to fear.
Not the One who required suffering
to prove my love.

But something vast.
Still.
Wild.
Like the hush that comes before rain,
or the feeling of being watched
by something that loves you
without needing to explain why.

It didn’t shout or shake me.
It didn’t ask for worship.
It just was.
And I—weary with asking—
was allowed to simply be.

For a heartbeat,
I belonged to nothing but the moment.
No doctrine,
no shame,
no striving.

Just a breeze.
A knowing.
A loosening of the grip
I didn’t realize I still had.

And then it passed—
as all glimpses do.

But I remember.
Not with my mind,
but with the softness of my body.
With the quiet place in my chest
that still turns toward the light
I didn’t know I was missing.
